Dear Friends back home,

I have been enjoying my time here at the Merrimack Public Library, in Merrimack, NH. They have just finished their Summer Reading Program for 2011 and I hope my presence has helped make it a fun time for everyone.

The 2011 theme they have been using is "One World, Many Stories." I joined them for a sing-a-long with Hoot N Hollah, where here you see me helping them sing a Scottish song called "Aiken Drum". (I am on the podium overseeing the pictures of the food shapes that the kids choose to create Aiken Drum's features) The lady in the pink T shirt is the Children's Librarian, Mrs. Couser.

I also helped Mrs. Glavin set up a program about India during which the kids made Rangoli, a traditional decorative welcome sign for your door.

I was fortunate to meet their summer intern, Liz, who is a student at Plymouth State University. She was pretty brave on the day that Critters N Creatures Animal Show came to the library and had her picture taken with Darwin, the Tegu Lizard from South America, but as you can see, I decided to hang out on the other side of the camera lens. (Nothing personal against Darwin!)

Mrs. Couser told me to tell you that she is very proud of the kids in Merrimack who participated in the Summer Reading Program. They had 487 kids read a total of 4,802 hours! That's more than 300 hours than last year. I find this very exciting personally because the kids were challenged by the Friends of the Merrimack Library to read 3500 hours, and if they reached their goal, the Friends would make a donation of $450 to the Humane Society for Greater Nashua. I am very, very happy for the dogs, puppies, cats and kittens who will be helped by these awesome kids.

I've included a picture showing how the hours read were tracked on a gigantic poster in the hallway outside of the Children's Room, with one sticker = to one hour.

Well, I'm going to catch a few waves over here by Hawaii, and then be on my way to my next Library!

Well I have had quite a whirlwind time here at Westwood! They are in the midst of building a state of the art new library right next door; this has made it very easy to enjoy watching all the construction. I even got to pose in front of some Diggers and very friendly construction workers. I will definitely have to make a trip out here again when the new building is done, I hear the children's room will have its own little garden... perfect place for me to get some sun while I surf and read.

I was cordially invited to attend Miss Loretta's storytime and even got to pose with some characters from the Flannel Story of "Mother Mother I want Another". I had a lot of fun and earned my keep by helping Joyce with some circulation duties.
I will miss my friends at Westwood, especially Penny the Dinosaur, she was a lovely host. Well I'm off to my next destination.

Richmond Memorial Library, Marlborough, CT

Greetings from Marlborough CT!

I arrived here just in time to see Spring bloom (plus some wind and rain!) But that was perfect because I got to join some new friends in 2 storytimes! Ms. Eileen and the 4 & 5-yr-olds made these cute chicks! I had a blast reading to my new friend as we sat in the window and soaked up some rays.

Here's a picture of me with my new 2-yr-old friends from Ms. Patty's storytime. They were reading stories about kites and wind. Ms. Patty made this great flannelboard display of kites and clouds - and I got to be in it! You can see my red hat above the little boy 2nd from the right. Then I got to fly these kites with the kids allllllllllllllllll around the room!!!! FUN!

Well I'm off on another adventure. Then maybe the Spring winds will be flying me home soon!

Saxton B. Little Free Library , Columbia, CT

Well this week I stopped at the Saxton B. Little Free Library in Columbia, CT. I arrived the day after Dr. Seuss's Birthday, so I just had to read some of my favorites by him while I was there. Here I am checking out their display - right after I took this picture I read Bartholomew and the Oobleck with one of my new friends:

Of course I had to check out their toys! Even though the library is small, Columbia has lots of blocks, puzzles, and puppets. Here I am building a lego tower!

Usually I am a little scared of bees, but these guys were nice. Bees are sort of the unofficial mascot at the Saxton 'B.' (get it!), and these bees travel just like me! After talking with them I found out they have been all over the world with library patrons from Columbia. These bees have been to Japan, Russia, Alaska, and one even sat on the Great Wall of China. How cool is that?? Maybe I'll go to China next!

The Oxford Public Library is small - it's in the basement of the town hall - but during my stay here, I had BIG FUN!

Last Thursday, I attended a concert sponsored by the library! Children's performer, Chris Keithan, a.ka. Mr. Gym, played songs for about 40 kids and adults (plus one rabbit!). The songs were aimed at encouraging kids to get physically fit. Everyone had so much fun hopping, dancing, and playing with scarves and egg shakers!

Then, I let my creative side show as I painted with watercolors along with some new friends!

Finally, I attended Babies & Books, a storytime for infants - three-year-olds! We listened to Miss Marissa read stories, we sang songs, and then came the best part: playing with the library's toys!

I had a great time at the Monson Free Library! I met a new friend named Peter who was hanging out in the Children's Room. I spent some quiet time reading to the fish too!
I found this giant jar of candy hearts but the librarians said I had to guess how many were in there if I wanted to eat them! I don't think I would have been able to eat them all anyway, the jar was as big as me!

I arrived here in Ashford shortly before Chrismas, just in time to admire the holiday decorations, hear a few Chrismas stories, and make a few holiday crafts. I enjoyed a tour of the children's area and stayed cozy and warm here in the library while snow blew and swirled all around the building. Today I helped exchange the Christmas books for Kwanzaa, New Year's, and snow related topics.

Hi Everybody!

This surfer dude just had a great adventure with the kids at the Bill Library in Ledyard! We did silly clothes day and I came in my swimming suit with my surfboard! The kids loved that cool cat image! I spent some time with other friends and we got our pictures taken in the picture book area! Best place, I thought!! Timmy the squirrel also dressed up in his Super Squirrel costume. He hid behind me because he was hoping to fly away on my surfboard to Hawaii, but we didn't make it this week. Hello from Houston, Pennsylvania! Houston is a small town just south of Pittsburgh, PA. I got here just in time to join the Thursday Night Story Time group in the middle of their Fall session. It's all about colors of Fall, and the color this week was brown. We talked all about the changing leaves, football (these kids are all huge Pittsburgh Steeler fans!!), and CHOCOLATE!! And then the weekend of my visit was the Houston Pumpkin Festival, a yearly event that includes crafts, games, food and a parade! I got to ride in the library truck that was decorated with a HUGE spider! It was great fun, I had a really good time, and now I am off to my next destination!!

Tucker told us that he only had a couple of days to spend in the area so we kept pretty close to the library. I would have loved to have shown him the seacoast of New Hampshire but... Instead he read to stuffed animals who were spending the night at the library and in the morning he attended one of our story times. The children were happy to meet him. This afternoon he will begin his slow journey from Madbury, New Hampshire to Becket, MA. He did have time to send a postcard home, where he hopes to be before the year is out!

Greetings from pleasant Westerville, Ohio! What a great time I've had with my new friends! I received a warm welcome by Booker, a really fun and well-read bunny who lives at the library. Forget bear hugs, bunny hugs are the best!

Then I had a look around the library. I listened to
a Playaway, which is like an audio book in it's own

little MP3 player. Very cool!

And I looked at a really cool display of about a bazillion Pez dispensers. I asked what these were doing at the library. Turns out it's a kid's collection. Any kid in the whole community can have their collection displayed at the library. How cool is that?!

Then I had to rush because I arrived just in time to celebrate the Westerville Public Library's 80th birthday! Let me tell you, those crazy Westervillians sure do know how to throw a party! There was a giant 80 (see me in the middle?), and huge birthday cake that didn't taste very good, and a little cake that was really yummy!

Plus, there was a really fun storytime, and a magician, and balloon animals!

Then I stayed for a really fun program all about narrative skills. I didn't know this, but I guess there are things every kid should know about before going to school, and one of those things is being able to tell stories. Anyway, I sure got lots of practice -- we listened to a story called The Gunniwolf. (It sounds scary, but it's got a happy ending!) Then we acted out the story with yoga poses, and then all us kids got to tell it with stick puppets! Too bad it we were all having so much fun we forgot to take pictures!

I sure did have fun in Westerville, and I'm sad to go but also excited about my next adventure! Talk to you again soon!

East Baton Rouge Parish Library, Baton Rouge, Louisiana

I have had a great time in Baton Rouge.! Boy is it hot! Despite the heat and rian, I did a lot. I ate out a lot at cajun and creole restaurants and went on a swamp tour and saw live alligators and egrets and helped out with summer reading. i spent most of my time at the Bluebonnet Regional Branch.

The nice library staff brought me to a great restaurant where we ate the most wonderful Louisiana seafood. They are really serious about adhering to the summer reading theme, even in their menu choices – fish, frog legs, crabs, shrimp, crawfish and alligator!. (Picture 001)

The next day I went to Spanish Storytime. Hola, I’d like to learn more Spanish; that was fun. (003 & 004)

Then I helped two new friends select a spot on the wall reserved for those who turned in their reading logs. Look at all the names! (007)

The Bluebonnet Library is next to the Bluebonnet Swamp, a natural area right in the middle of Baton Rouge. I found two friends who let me sit in on their own personal storytime and enjoy the beautiful scenery and a good book. (010)

I want to return soon, but for now I have to move on! Lots to see and do around th country!

Oklahoma City Downtown Library

I made it to the Ronald J. Norick Downtown Library in Oklahoma City. I met Farmer Jason who sang silly songs to lots of energetic kids.

I listened to children read stories to dogs. It is really cool. Certified Therapy Dogs come into the library and listen to their favorite stories. I think Go Dogs Go was my favorite.

The OKC Library has great computer games for children of all ages. I played Curious George with Miss Rondia and her friend Cassey.

Hanging out in the children's area, I watched children learning to read and children playing puzzles.

Hello! from Northfield, Minnesota! It's a special year here, it's the library's centennial- the library is as old as I am! I spent my time assisting the library's volunteer Library Pages at the summer reading programs. I need a rest after all the things I did. I helped them at morning storytimes where the kids made turtle hats in honor of me! I also helped at the afternoon "Make a Splash Discovery Times" where we had a "freezie walk"and I made glurp with some nice girls. Then I watched the Pages make geysers out of pop! I got to serve pizza at the reader's reward lunch. I danced the conga at the evening music performance Books & Stars with a cool Brazilian band! I drank a cold Hawiian shaved ice too fast and had to rest on the ambulance bed.

I got to walk around in historical downtown Northfield with my new friends. I saw the bank Frank and Jesse James tried to rob and much more. I even helped a girl get her first library card! I ended my visit with a special "Library Splash" at the pool. I enjoyed trying the climbing wall and swimming. I even won the biggest splash contest!

The children's librarian Kathy was fun to work with and the kids were really great. I hope you enjoy seeing the pictures of my adventures. I had a super time in Northfield!

Pajama Storytime,

and the Toddler Dance Party too!

Bubba the alligator visited the library with some other "Cold Blooded Creatures" and I rode on Bubba's back!

Then I visited with Jake and Elwood Blues at the Joliet Area Historical Museum.

Hi All Ya'll,

I arrived in Chesapeake on Monday. Everyone has been very nice here. They have made me feel welcome with true southern hospitality (they even taught me the correct greating). They have a program called Summer Fun Tuesdays every Tuesday afternoon. I got to attend one that was presented by the Coast Guard on Boating and Water Safety. This was good because this area is very near the Atlantic Ocean and has lots of water to go boating and stuff in. It was great fun.

Hi Everyone!

I spent Tuesday, July 13, at the Hedberg Public Library in Janesville, Wisconsin. I visited with some of the kids...

...and went to a big magic show that even had puppets. The magician let me sit in the cauldron and go down the book return slot in his magic castle.

I even got to help one girl check out her books

The library director was really nice and listened to how our library in Avon does things,

and the teen volunteers let me sit with them while they worked on special projects and helped kids get their summer reading prizes.

One of my relatives -- Trent the Turtle -- is visiting HPL and hides in a different place in the Children's Room every day. The kids sure do like trying to find Trent, but he's so good at hiding I couldn't even get a picture of him!

I had a great time in Wisconsin. The librarian told me I'm going to Oklahoma City next and I'm pretty excited about that. Traveling sure is fun and I am really enjoying meeting all these different people. I hope you get a chance to visit some of the places I've been. If you do, be sure to mention my name!

Hello from hot and steamy Iowa! I have met some really wonderful people here and will miss the chance to stay and do more fun activities (I hear a rumor about a bubble program this afternoon) but am anxious to be on my way to another great library.

This past week has been action packed with a chance to see storytimes for many ages, watch a Friday Feature movie on the big screen, and listen to some great music with the citizens of Ames in an outdoor bandshell and park. Here I am in a family storytime with Miss Tracy.

She read a few funny soggy stories and some of the kids helped me make an underwater diorama.

I got a little homesick this week because I really missed my friends back in Connecticut. It is hard to be away from home for so long, even if I am having fun. Dewey Bear helps with the Toddler Time storytimes and he noticed I was feeling down and gave me a BIG hug. I felt so much better! Sometimes hugs are exactly what you

need to cheer up again.

Well, it is my last morning here at the Wright Library in Dayton, Ohio. Mrs. Rose has been a wonderful hostess/librarian. She is actually a native New Englander, having grown up in Northampton, Massachusetts, and received her BS and MLS from Southern Connecticut State University.

Today, I attended preschool storytime and got to listen to some more stories about fish. I got a chance to watch the movie again and help with the craft. One of the storytime kids was kind enough to give me a snack. I need to have some lunch before I get packed up and ready to visit my next destination, which will be in Joliet, Illinois. I am having a great time here at the Wright Memorial Public Library in Dayton, Ohio. This morning, I attended the Toddler Storytime, it was a lot of fun! I learned about fish and even got to watch a movie! I also flew the Wright Flyer and played in the submarine. I got to meet some nice children, and I get to go to Preschool storytime tomorrow. Here are some photos of me doing all kinds of fun things here at the library! I met a shark. Fortunately, he was friendly and DID NOT eat rabbits!! Wheee, I got to play on the parachute. That was FUN!! I also got a chance to sit next to the SRC t-shirts that Wright Library is raffling off as prizes.

Howdy from the Little Walnut Creek Branch of Austin Public Library! I'm deep in the heart of Texas in the state capital. In fact, here I am in front of the State Capitol building which was built in 1888. It's been really hot in Austin-- about 95 degrees-- but it's been raining too, which hardly ever happens around these parts during the summer. I almost floated away!

I was a guest at the library's weekly summer program last week which featured Jungle Jim and his World of Bugs. Here I am with a tarantula! I know he's really an arachnid and not a bug, but I also got to see a scorpion-- and best of all, I got to say "Howdy" to a Mississippi Mud Turtle.

I also got to say "Howdy" to Ramona, the library's guinea pig. She looks like a wig and sometimes it's hard to tell her front end from her back end! But she was friendly and let me relax in her cage after trying to nibble on my book.

Off to Wisconsin where I hope it's cooler and not so wet.

I wanted to let all of you know that I hopped on over to Dayton, Ohio, and I am currently enjoying some books about Orville and Wilbur Wright, inventors of the airplane, here at the Wright Memorial Public Library. The librarians here are very nice, and are very kind to rabbits. I will be participating in some programs over the next few days, and pictures will be posted later. I had a good lunch of carrots and lettuce, and I am drinking plenty of water. Right now, I am in the middle of a really good book, and I will have to write to everyone later. I went to Toddler Time at the library today. Boy, was it busy. Here is a picture of what was happening!

After Toddler Time I took a short walk to see the Ariel Lift Bridge, because you shouldn't go to Duluth without stopping to see the bridge.

Hi everyone, I just visited the great state of California, the island off shore and now here I am in Los Angeles County, the city of South Gate. I'm with my friends at the Hollydale Library here in South Gate. This is an Hispanic community and so I said, "Hola, como estas? Me llamo Tucker," I said in Spanish. Most of my friends here speak two languages, English and Spanish. So, I said, "Hello, how are you? My name is Tucker." Wow, now I'm off to Texas. Bye, bye, Tucker.

Hello everyone!

I arrived in Duluth, Minnesota today and quickly made a friend. Here is a picture of me reading to Carl the Crab.

Do you ever read to your friends? I think that it is a lot of fun! I am still wearing the hat that my friends in Texas gave me. I don't know if I will ever take it off.

After reading with Carl, I helped children with a craft. They were making fish. That really fits in with the Make a Splash reading theme, doesn't it?

Next I looked at the doll house. The family inside is all ready to celebrate the Fourth of July. They have their barbecue all set up. What are you going to do this weekend to celebrate?

McKinney Public Library System McKinney, TX

My second, and last day in McKinney, Texas, was another hot one. It is 99 degrees again but only feels like 104. Today I decided to stay inside and enjoy the air conditioning. This morning began with a lapsit storytime with Ms. Kelli and three new friends: Lonnie Longhorn, Annie Armadillo, and Sammy. We read a book, sang some songs, and shook our sillies out!

In the afternoon, I joined some librarians for a librarians' meeting. They all wanted to be like me, so they made bunny ears. Those silly librarians!

Afterwards, they threw an ice cream social in my honor. This Lone Star book is so fascinating that I couldn't put it down even for a bowl of ice cream with sprinkles!

Thanks to Ms. Monica and all of the new friends I made in McKinney. I will miss them, but I am looking forward to heading north next! XOXO Becca Bunny

Avalon Library, Avalon, CA

I traveled an hour by ferry in the Pacific Ocean just to get to Avalon Library. The air was clear and the water calm, so it was lots of fun! Avalon Library is on Santa Catalina Island, 22 miles off the coast of Southern California. I had a great time exploring the beautiful island and meeting the kids in Avalon. I know my trip on the ferry back to the mainland will be another exciting adventure.

McKinney Public Library; McKinney, TX

Howdy, Folks! This morning I arrived in the Lone Star State: Texas! I am visiting friends at the McKinney Public Library System in McKinney, Texas. It is 99 degrees but feels like 106. My friends here greeted me with a present: a new cowboy hat. It's sure nice to wear in the sun. Here is a picture of me in my new hat, reading a Lone Star book, and checking out a display of the summer reading club. The state wide theme this summer is: Catch the Reading Express!

The Roy and Helen Hall Memorial Library is located in historic downtown McKinney, and today was perfect for visiting. My first stop was at the old courthouse. McKinney is the county seat of Collin County, and it is one of just a few counties and cities in Texas named for the same person. Collin McKinney, for whom the city and county are named, was one of the signers of the Texas Declaration of Independence. Mr. Robert, who is a native McKinney resident, was happy to be my tour guide.

Next, it was time for a treat. I stopped at the Mom & Popcorn shop, just a block away. I had fun looking through all of the barrels of candy! It's good candy. No Peppermints in the Parlor here! It was more fun than a barrel of monkeys.

Next it was time to see the Crape Myrtle Trails of McKinney. Crape Myrtles are the official city tree, and they are in full bloom right now. I've seen lovely shades of hot pink, red, lavendar, and white.

My final stop for the day was the Heard-Craig House. It is located in downtown McKinney, and it was built in 1900 for Mr. and Mrs. S.D. Heard and their family. Their daughter, Kathryn (Katie) Heard Craig, had a vision of using the home to culturally enrich the lives of the people of McKinney.
Well, folks, I am all tuckered out for today. Tomorrow I plan to attend storytimes at the Library and meet some more friends. Adios until then. :)

Sunday afternoon I did meet someone famous!

Hey Summer Readers!

It turns out that two of the Carson librarians are really big fans of Disneyland and they decided my trip to Southern California wouldn't be complete without a trip to the Magic Kingdom so ...away we went.

What a day I had.

I parlayed with pirates, sailed on a ship, saw a parade, took a train trip. I twirled in a teacup, traveled in space, sang "It's a Small World" and hopped all over the place.

I wish I could post all my Disneyland pictures on this blog, but I have to get going to my next library.

Still, I did want to share one more picture and story.

Today I learned that people from all over California, different parts of the United States, and even different parts of the world work in Disneyland and their hometowns are printed on their name-tags. Today I met Deja, who helps people take pictures with Goofy. I was telling her about my traveling all the way to Carson to visit the library when I noticed her name tag and guess where she is from. Deja is from Carson, California! I was so excited I decided she needed to be in my picture with Goofy. (She is pointing to her name-tag where it says Carson.) I sure enjoyed meeting Deja and all the nice people at the Carson Library, but now I am on my way to TEXAS!

Hey Summer Readers,

Look who I found hanging out at the beach here in California...

Actually, it turned out it wasn't really the Wimpy Kid...it was his "stand-in" for the movie. Still he looked so much like the Wimpy Kid they also used him as a stunt double. We talked about which of the Wimpy Kid books we liked best and how we both read all of the books before we saw the movie. If you want to learn more about what a stand-in or stunt double does, ask your librarian for some books on how movies are made. Well, I have one more day here in Southern California because two of the Carson Library librarians are taking me someplace special. Maybe tomorrow I really will meet someone famous. Anyway, I'll post one more blog before I take off for Texas and also be on the lookout for some postcards coming your way.

I spent some time at Children's Reference answering questions about the care and feeding of a bunny! Then I hopped over to the display case to check out the prizes for reading this summer.

Hey all ...

I'm having a blast here in Littlerock. Just finished watching Mr. Cory twist lots of different balloon animals, hats, swords, and flowers. He explained how you can twist the balloons to make the same cool creations he did and that the library has books that teach you about balloon art. He also told us where we can buy the stuff we would need to make them. Mr. Cory made everyone their own balloon creation. The one he made for me was a really cool ninja turtle. The only problem is that ninja turtles get a little wild sometimes, he got a little carried away and he popped. Check out the pictures of my afternoon at the library. The librarian says I'm off to Texas next, I sure hope it's cooler there. Thanks Littlerock Library for showing me such a good time.

Today is Friday, June 18th and I had a busy morning here at Carson Library!

This morning I attended a Baby storytime with my new friend Jayden and the nice librarian, Ms. Mariko. A Baby storytime is one where you, and other babies of course, sit in a parent or care giver's lap to sing songs, nursery rhythms, hear stories, and even bounce! And you know how we rabbits love to bounce...

The Carson Library is a Family Place library, so they have lots of programs for babies and toddlers. They even have a Family Place area in the library set aside for these kids to spend time with parents.

And there are computers that you can take your picture on...

I am going to be spending another day or two here in California as another librarian has promised to take me some place special. So that will give me a couple more days to post blogs and send postcards.

Hey Everyone ...

Just arrived here in hot, hot, hot Littlerock. I am really

glad that the library I'm visiting is nice and cool. The librarian

told me today they are having a Balloon Artist coming to perform for their Summer Reading Program. I made it just in time. I can't wait to see what cool things he is going to make with his balloons. Since the ocean is to far away for me to ride some waves to keep me cool, I'll just chill out at the library and read some books while I'm waiting for the program to start.

Hello from Carson Library...

Wow, what an afternoon. I went to a summer reading program called "The Twisted Adventures of Buster Balloon!" I sat in the front row with some of my new friends from the Carson Library and look at what happened during the show.

Buster started blowing up a giant balloon !

The kids kept telling him to blow it up bigger and bigger and bigger until...

It was so big he could get right in it.

And he did!

When he was all the way inside of the balloon, Buster had me come up and take a picture with him. Don't worry, Buster popped the balloon and went on with the show. I am having a great time in California.

Hello from Sunny Southern California,

I arrived here this morning and boy was I glad to get out of that envelope.

The first thing I did, after I hopped around and stretched my legs, was go outside to see if I could find a palm tree. I had read that California has all kinds of palm trees. Sure enough I found one right outside the library and so...

I took a picture.

Hello Friends!

Becca Bunny, Cole Cat and I are ready to start our library adventures! Yesterday we attended a cool science program called "Weather Mania" presented by Talcott Mountain Science Center with some friends here at our own Avon Free Public Library. We learned about different kinds of weather and how air can be used to move objects. Check out the pictures of us all.... Becca Bunny is getting ready to fly in the air on a pink balloon. Cole Cat is watching a friend use her air to push a ping pong ball through a hollow tube. And I am feeling hurricane force winds with another friend. Aren't libraries fun?? You can find lots of books about weather and other things you are interested in at your local library. Come visit us!

Hello to all of my Friends! So many friendly Librarians have offered for me to visit that I am afraid that I will not be able to make it to all of their Libraries in one summer! So, I have decided to enlist the help of my friends, Cole Cat and Becca Bunny, to help me. We are so excited to start our adventures and meet our new friends!
